Author: Nell Kimball

Nell Kimball

Nell Kimball was the subject of a hoax memoir by popular novelist Stephen Longstreet. Longstreet used her memoirs as references in his works and then published the memoirs of Kimball (1854-1934), who he alleged was a prostitute and madam in New Orleans, in 1970. The hoax and plagiarism -- from the works of Herbert Asbury -- was discovered shortly after the book was published. There is no evidence that Kimball ever existed.
